Smurfers and Pharmacists

Do you remember the “Smurfs”? They are not just the cute little blue cartoon figures anymore. They are people who are out gathering pseudoephedrine (PSE) to abuse the drug or create one of the most addictive drugs- methamphetamine. PSE is the precursor needed to make methamphetamine. This class will explain to pharmacists why Smurfers buy PSE and how they abuse it. The class will also cover how to spot a Smurfer. The class will look at how pharmacists and law enforcement can work together to deal with this very serious problem. The class will cover trends in controlling PSE and its impact on the pharmaceutical industry and pharmacists. These controls can create legal issues for pharmacists. The class will show what pharmacists can do to reduce their legal and civil liability and make their job safer.
